Teenage Boy Due In Court Over School Stabbing sky news

The 16-year-old is appearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today in connection with the death of Bailey Gwynne, who died on Wednesday By James Matthews, Scotland Correspondent

A 16 year-old boy is due to appear in court today, charged in connection with the death of schoolboy Bailey Gwynne.

The teenager will appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Bailey died on Wednesday after a stabbing incident at Cults Academy.

He lost his life after becoming involved in an incident with another pupil in an area known as "The Street", an interior walkway, towards the end of the lunch break.

The episode has left a community in shock. On Thursday night, 24 hours after the incident, the school community came together inside Cults Parish Church to share their grief.

Several hundred pupils, parents and staff packed into the church for a candlelit vigil at which they shared their thoughts on Wednesday's events.

They were invited for discussion and to light candles, add prayers to a "prayer tree" and write down their feelings on a whiteboard.

It was organised by the Cults Academy chaplaincy team.

One of them, Rev Ewen Gilchrist, told those present: "We had no idea what to expect tonight. We thought something, something must be offered to bring people together.

"Bailey Gwynne's family will hear about this and the number of people here and hopefully it will give them a bit of light in the darkness.

"We don't want to fill the vigil time with words. We don't tell people what to feel or what to think. But we do want to provide a safe and healing place where people can bring their hurt, their bewilderment, their questions, their sadness and even their anger."
